Participants in a recent iCohere webinar that I presented with host Lance Simon raised the issue synchronous vs asynchronous eLearning. Sparked by their comments, I wrote a guest post for the iCohere blog Moving2Virtual. The decisions related to time and place for learning — especially eLearning — really incorporate all of the above: synchronous and asynchronous. With an array of eLearning and f2f options offered in synchronous and asynchronous settings, professional learning can occur according to the learner’s availability and need. Today’s busy professional is a lifelong learner who lives in a world of digital options: laptops, tablets, smartphones, wearables. Characteristic of adult learners, this professional prefers choices including choices of when and where to learn. Today’s learning organizations must design, develop, and deliver professional education across platforms, operating systems, and thus time and place.
